How R2S works
R2S stands for 'Return 2 Scene'. It's a Windows-based asset management system that enables every aspect of a location to be digitally recorded and integrated with a variety of other media.
Using a high-definition spherical camera, the system produces 360° x 180° high resolution images which, when interlinked, create a 'walk-through' environment.
R2S software then enables links to corresponding maps, photos, notes, audio and video files, 3D animation and other material relevant to the scene. This allows all involved in the investigation to view the scene and to contribute and reference information about it, thereby facilitating remote collaboration.
The camera not only records in amazing detail, but in extreme lighting conditions, making it possible to view scene areas previously invisible to the human eye and traditional photography. It also allows measurements to be taken within the scene long after it has changed.
R2S has already proved to be an invaluable tool in forensics , where access to a crime scene is restricted, where the smallest details could prove significant and where time is of the essence in apprehending possible suspects. That’s where the communication and collaborative possibilities of R2S really prove their worth. The ability to compile and publish a complete case profile simply and easily, is finding an enthusiastic audience for both the technology and the MRU that delivers it.
